Did you know of the great blessings and rewards that come from the right hand?
Eating – Western culture considers it uncultured and impolite, but it is Sunnah to eat with the right hand, as did Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Ibn ‘Umar narrated that The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: “When one of you eats, let him eat with his right hand, and when he drinks, let him drink with his right hand. Verily, the devil eats and drinks with his left hand. (Muslim). It is also Sunnah to eat with three fingers lick them fingers at the end of the meal. Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (saw) as saying: “When any one of you eats food he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in what part of the food sticking to his fingers the blessing lies.” (Muslim)
Sleeping – It’s Sunnah so sleep in a state of Wudhu, on the right side and bend the knees slightly. Lying on the left side decreases the heart’s ability to function properly. Imam Bukhari (pbuh) narrates that Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: ”When you go to bed, you should perform the ablution for the prayer, and then lay down on your right side.”
Dressing – Almighty Allah ordered us to cover ourselves, which we do through the use of clothing. In Surah Al-Araf, Allah says “O Children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves and as an adornment.” According to the example of Prophet Muhammad (saw), start dressing from the right side first – right arm, right leg, right foot. To undress, we should start from the left – left arm, left leg, left foot. Prophet Muhammad (saw) states “If one of you puts on his shoes, let him begin with the right. And when he takes them off, he should begin with the left.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
